Abbott’s cuts mean Sunshine Coast will get a second rate NBN

Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare and Senator Claire Moore today met with local residents who will miss out on the real NBN and will have to rely on a second rate old copper system.

Tony Abbott has pulled the plug on homes and businesses right across the Sunshine Coast.

Before the last election Tony Abbott lied to Australians. He has broken his promise of no cuts to education, no cuts to health, no changes to pensions and no new taxes. He has also broken his promise on the NBN.

Last year Tony Abbott promised that residents across the Sunshine Coast would have access to the NBN by 2016. That’s now not going to happen. Just before Christmas the Liberal Government said that promise would be broken.

Tony Abbott is creating two classes of people – those that will get the real NBN and those that won’t.

Under Labor more than 170,000 homes and businesses on the Sunshine Coast would have received super-fast fibre all the way to their premises. Now most will have rely on the second rate slower copper system.

Tony Abbott is creating a digital divide – some people will have fibre all the way to their homes whilst others will be forced to make do with the Coalition’s second rate fibre-to-the-node model – and it simply isn’t good enough.
