5,800 DUNKLEY FAMILIES TO RECEIVE CHEAPER CHILD CARE

The countdown is on to Cheaper Child Care in the electorate of Dunkley with about 5,800 local families set to benefit from the Albanese Government’s changes.

From 1 July, the Government will cut the cost of early education and care for local families and around 1.2 million families across the country.

The changes will cut costs by about $1,700 a year for the average family on about $120,000 a year, who have a child in care three days a week.

For families on a combined income of $80,000 or less, the Child Care Subsidy rate will lift to 90 per cent.

For families with two or more children aged five or under in care, the higher subsidy of up to 95 per cent will remain.

The number of Indigenous children in early education will also be boosted by increasing the eligibility hours for subsidised child care each fortnight.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education Jason Clare:

“Child care is really important.  It is also really expensive.  In just 72 days’ time it will get a lot cheaper for more than 1 million Australian families.

“The Albanese Government promised to deliver Cheaper Child Care, and from 1 July that becomes a reality.

“Cheaper Child Care is a practical measure that is good for children, good for parents and good for the country.

“It will help with cost-of-living pressures and make it easier for parents to return to paid work, or work more paid hours, if they want to.”

Comment attributable to Member for Dunkley Peta Murphy:

“The Australian Government’s Cheaper Child Care changes will benefit about 5,800 families in the electorate of Dunkley.

“I know local families are counting down the days until July as we look forward to more affordable, quality early education and care.

“This will be real cost-of-living relief for many local families, and an opportunity for more families to work, grow and thrive in our wonderful community.”
