From National Cabinet to the Front Bench: Local Government Kicked to the Kerb Again

In their latest crusade against local government, the Liberal-National Government has kicked the local government portfolio off the front bench.

This is the first time the local government portfolio will not be on the front bench since it was first represented in 1972.

It may come as a surprise to the Prime Minister, but there are three levels of Government in Australia: federal, state and local. All have an important role to play.

Councils are the closest level of government to our communities, providing essential services throughout times of crisis such as bushfires, floods and the COVID pandemic.

They deserve a seat at the table and on the front bench.

Only a Labor Government knows how important local government and local government employees are to our communities.
