Tasmanian Labor’s Social Housing Policy Announcement

Federal Labor welcomes Tasmanian Labor’s social housing announcement today, a $195.7 million commitment to build more than 2,000 new homes.

This will help put a roof over the head of more than 4,600 Tasmanians who are doing it tough.

Like their Federal colleagues, the Tasmanian Liberals have abandoned people experiencing homelessness.

The public housing wait list in Tasmania has increased by 75 per cent since the Liberals assumed government in 2014.

Between 2019 and 2020, just five social housing properties were added and despite promising 80 new houses each year from the Commonwealth Housing Debt Waiver, they have not built a single one.

The Tasmanian Labor commitment comes after the Victorian Labor Government’s record breaking investment in social housing.

This is more proof the only way to do something real about reducing homelessness is to vote Labor.
