Labor welcomes reports today that the Government will finally commit to implementing the recommendations of Peter Varghese’s report into increasing trade between Australia and India.
It’s about time.
The Government has sat on this report for seven months.
The former Trade Minister tried to bury the report when it was released in July and the Government’s delayed response is indicative of a chaotic divided government which is focused on fighting itself.
Last month Labor announced its support for the priority recommendations.
The Government should also commission a report like the Varghese Report to develop ideas to boost trade with Indonesia.
Last month Labor announced it would do this and the government should follow Labor’s lead once again as well as back flipping on its embassy decision.
