TURNBULL GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO COMMIT TO FUND ROCKHAMPTON LEVEE IN QUESTION TIME
It appears increasingly unlikely that the Turnbull Conservatives will fund the South Rockhampton Flood Levee leaving 1,500 homes and business at risk of flooding again.
Today I asked Turnbull the following question in Question Time:
“Building the South Rockhampton Flood Levee would protect 1,200 homes and could help reduce insurance premiums for Rockhampton households by up to $400 a year.
Rockhampton Council, the Queensland Labor Government and Federal Labor have all committed to funding it.
Will it take another devastating flood for the Prime Minister to commit the funding to build the levee and project Rocky homes and businesses?”
Because he is too out of touch with Rockhampton to know the answer – he flicked it to Barnaby Joyce who spent his time talking about everything but the levee.
In the end, he refused again to commit the funding needed to build the levee.
This is despite a letter from Barnaby to Rockhampton Council on the levee over four years ago, which said:
“your project looks like it has a strong case… I will ensure it receives strong consideration from the Coalition.”
Joyce letter to Cr Margaret Strelow, Mayor, Rockhampton Regional Council, 3 July 2013
Federal Labor has committed to funding the levee.
The Queensland Labor Government has committed to funding the levee.
Rockhampton Regional Council has committed to funding the levee.
If Rockhampton floods again the people of Rocky will know who to blame.
The only way to secure the funding to keep Rocky homes and businesses safe is to vote Labor.
