Fremantle still waiting for even a second rate NBN

Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare and Member for Fremantle Melissa Parke will meet with the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce and local businesses today to discuss the slow rollout of the Coalition’s second rate NBN.

Before the last Federal election Malcolm Turnbull promised that all Fremantle residents would have access to the NBN by 2016. Since then not a single existing home or business in Fremantle has been connected to the NBN.

Under Labor, the whole of Fremantle would have received the world class fibre-to-the-premises NBN with internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.

Under Malcolm Turnbull, as Communications Minister, Fremantle was ripped off the NBN rollout map.

Malcolm Turnbull also promised to prioritise the NBN rollout to areas with the worst broadband. He has broken that promise too.

Residents in Munster, Spearwood and Beeliar have some of the worst internet access in Australia but they still have no idea when they will get even the second rate version of the NBN.

The Abbott/Turnbull Government has forgotten the people of Fremantle. It is now over two years since the Abbott/Turnbull Government was elected and the people of Fremantle still do not even have access to the second rate copper version of the NBN.

The people of Fremantle deserve better than broken promises on the NBN.
