ABC and SBS still hurting from budget of broken promises

Tony Abbott promised to make things better for the ABC and SBS but he has made things so much worse.

The night before the election, Tony Abbott said:

“No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to ABC or SBS.”

                                                                                                                                          TONY ABBOTT– 6 SEPTEMBER 2013

Last year’s budget revealed that was a lie.

The Budget of broken promises had cuts to health, cuts to education, cuts for pensioners and more than half a billion dollars’ worth of cuts for the ABC and SBS.

Since the 2014-15 Budget, more than 250 people have been given their marching orders from the ABC and there are another 150 who will face the sack in coming months.

But it is Australian viewers that are suffering the most from Tony Abbott’s broken promises.

Production facilities have been shut down, regional radio stations are gone and the Australia Network is a distant memory.

The Abbott Government’s dishonesty and incompetence is still hurting creative Australian jobs and ABC and SBS listeners and viewers.

It is probably too much to hope for that next week’s Budget will repair the damage.

It is clear that this year’s Budget is all about saving Tony Abbott’s job – not about Australia’s future.
