Tony Abbott – Yes I lied, but Malcolm made me do it!

Tony Abbott today has finally admitted that he lied to the Australian people on the night before the election and he is proud of it.

He said in Parliament:

“I absolutely accept that the commitment that I gave standing on the side of the Penrith Panthers home ground the night before the election, not to cut the ABC, we’ve broken that and frankly it’s just as well we did”.

Tony Abbott then blamed Malcolm Turnbull for breaking this promise. He said it was Malcolm Turnbull’s efficiency review into the ABC was the reason he broke his promise.

Under pressure, with 39 members of the Liberal Party caucus already in Team Turnbull, Tony Abbott is now doing his best to spread the blame and smear his most likely opponent in the next Liberal Party leadership spill.

The fact is, Tony Abbott has broken lots of promises. The night before the election, Tony Abbott said:

“No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to ABC or SBS.”

In last year’s budget, he broke every single one of them, bar one.

Despite that, The Australian newspaper has reported today that on 25 May 2014 at a private dinner for Liberal MPs in the cabinet anteroom, when the youngest member of Parliament Wyatt Roy told the Prime Minister it might be a good idea to apologise for breaking these promises, the Prime Minister yelled at him and said:

“There were no effing broken promises and no one should concede there has been.”

Today Tony Abbott has finally conceded he broke one promise. It is time he admitted he has also broken the rest.
