Abbott’s cuts mean many Woodcroft and Doonside residents will get a second rate NBN

Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare last night joined Member for Chifley Ed Husic at a public meeting in Woodcroft to discuss the concerns residents have with the NBN roll out in their local area.

Under Labor all homes and businesses in Woodcroft and Doonside would have received the super-fast fibre to the premises NBN.

However under the Coalition, many residents are forced to rely on the second rate copper system.

The Opposition has acknowledged that some areas of Woodcroft and Doonside previously struck off the roll-out maps have been restored by the Government and this is welcomed.

However the roll-out needs to be completed to all areas.

“We have seen some progress made in Woodcroft since the entire suburb was scrubbed off the NBN roll-out schedule when the Abbott Government came to power last year. Labor will continue to push the Government until everyone gets the service they were promised and deserve,” said Mr Husic.

Around seventy residents attended last night’s meeting. Residents in parts of Woodcroft that the Government has said would get fibre to the premises are very happy. Those outside the roll out area remain frustrated.

“Both Jason Clare and I were impressed by the passion shown by the many residents who attended the forum last night at Woodcroft and we gave a commitment to maintain the battle to have the real NBN rolled-out to them,” Mr Husic concluded.
