Abbott’s cuts mean Gawler will get a second rate NBN

Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare and Federal Member for Wakefield Nick Champion today met with local residents who will miss out on the real NBN and will have to rely on a second rate old copper system.

In another example of twisted priorities, Tony Abbott has pulled the plug on homes and businesses right across Gawler.

Last year Tony Abbott promised that Gawler residents would have access to the NBN by 2016. That’s now not going to happen. Just before Christmas the Liberal Government said they would no longer honour that promise.

Tony Abbott is creating two classes of people – those that will get the real NBN and those that won’t.

The people of Gawler were amongst the 500,000 homes and businesses that were stripped from the NBN rollout map last year when the Coalition broke another promise to honour existing NBN contracts.

Now instead of getting the super-fast fibre NBN all the way to their premises, the people of Gawler will have to rely on the second rate slower copper system.

Tony Abbott is creating a digital divide in South Australia – some residents will have fibre all the way to their homes whilst others will be forced to make do with the Coalition’s second rate fibre-to-the-node model – it simply isn’t good enough.
