245,000 Australians tell Tony Abbott to keep his promise

Before the last election Tony Abbott promised there would be “no cuts to the ABC”.

This week GetUp have delivered Members of Parliament a petition signed by 245,000 Australians calling on Tony Abbott not to break his promise by making cuts to the ABC.

This is an issue of trust.

Today’s West Australian newspaper reports that Cabinet decided yesterday to cut the Australia Network. If this is correct, Tony Abbott will have broken his promise to the Australian people.

The ABC is funded to run the Australia Network. Tony Abbott promised not to cut the ABC. If funding is cut to the Australia Network then he will have broken another election promise.

On the night before the election, on SBS News, he said:

“No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS.”

After the election he pledged to keep his promises. On Tuesday night, we will see if Tony Abbott is a man the Australian people can trust or not.
