Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull today failed to rule out the rumoured appointment of his former frontbench colleague Sophie Mirabella as the next Chairman of the SBS board.
Ms Mirabella has reportedly been a frequent attendee at SBS functions in recent months and the industry is rife with rumours that the Prime Minister overruled Mr Turnbull on the re-appointment of well respected former Chairman Joseph Skrzynski because he was freeing the job up for Mirabella.
Mr Turnbull’s failure to rule out the appointment of Mirabella will send shivers up the spine of those at SBS who are already being forced to deal with the broken election promise not to cut the budget and the threat of deeper cuts on the way.
I call on Malcolm Turnbull again to rule out the appointment of Sophie Mirabella to the SBS board.
