Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull today told the Parliament that he would not release the secret review that is telling him what to cut out of the ABC and SBS.
Despite the fact that the Prime Minister has clearly broken his promise from the night before the election that there would be “no cuts to the ABC or SBS”, Malcolm Turnbull continues to deny reality and said today that he will not admit that this is now a broken promise.
The Minister did admit for the first time that he will not release the secret review that will tell him what to cut from the ABC and SBS.
This means that if regional radio is cut, we will never know why.
If the resources devoted to broadcasting the World Cup on SBS are cut, we will never know why.
If SBS language services are cut, we will never know why.
If Q and A is cut and Mr Turnbull has to retire his leather jacket, we will never know why.
The Minister came into this job with a commitment to be transparent. Secret reviews that gut our public broadcasters show that commitment to be nothing more than hot air.
