Only 86,000 to go Malcolm

Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare today congratulated NBN Co on passing the lowball target of 357,000 premises passed by fibre by 30 June.

In November last year Malcolm Turnbull said 450,000 brownfields premises would be passed by fibre by the end of June.” [1] In December he dropped this figure to 357,000.

Mr Turnbull regularly notes that NBN Co has failed to meet its construction targets in the past.

He was determined to make sure that this doesn’t happen on his watch, so he has set the bar so low that it is impossible not to jump over it.

NBN Co is still 86,000 premises behind the target he set in November.

At NBN Co’s half-yearly results presentation on 21 February the new Chief Operating Officer Greg Adcock said: “We exited the year at a run rate of around 4,500 premises per week and we are targeting an FY 2014 exit run rate of around 6,000 as we ramp up and stabilise the program.”

The actual run rate from 31 December to 1 June has been less than 4,200 per week, and 2,500 per week since 30 March.=
