Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare today urged the Abbott Government to rule out more cuts to the ABC and the SBS.
Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey have already cut more than $240 million from the budgets of the ABC and SBS with a promise of more to come following the ‘efficiency review’.
Today Joe Hockey has threatened even more cuts to save his chaotic Budget.
Speaking on ABC’s AM Program:
Now, if the Senate chooses to block savings initiatives, then we need to look at other savings initiatives that may not require legislation and I would ask the Greens and the Labor Party who between them hold 35 votes on the floor of the Senate – to understand that there are alternatives for a Government.
JOE HOCKEY – AM PROGRAM – 16 JULY 2014
On the night before the 2013 Federal Election Tony Abbott promised on SBS News:
“No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to the ABC or SBS.”
This week 80 people lost their job at the ABC because that was a lie.
More cuts to the ABC and SBS will mean more people will be sacked and there will be a reduction in services.
Bill Shorten and Labor will fight this Budget because it is unfair and based on lies to the Australian people.
