Shadow Minister for Communications Jason Clare and Senator Nova Peris today called on the Abbott Government to tell the people of the Northern Territory if they are going to get the real NBN or Tony Abbott’s second rate version and when they are going to get it.
Suburbs like Ludmilla were on the NBN rollout map under Labor. They were taken off the map by the Abbott Government. Some residents have now been put back on, but residents still don’t know whether they are going to get the real NBN or the second rate NBN and when they are going to get it.
“Many Darwin and Palmerston residents have no idea when they are going to get the NBN at all, let alone what they are going to get.
“Malcolm Turnbull should be ensuring that people of Darwin and Palmerston are told what is happening as a matter of urgency,” Shadow Communications Minister Mr Clare said.
“Territorians want answers. They want to know when and if they are going to get access to Labor’s super-fast NBN or whether they will be stuck with a second rate slow NBN.” Ms Peris said today.
Jason Clare and Nova Peris met with NBN Action Groups and stakeholders today in Darwin and Palmerston.
“They are very frustrated. They know how important the NBN will be for the Top End. They want to know when they will get it and what they are going to get,” Mr Clare said.
“I’ve been working on getting the NBN to these premises because many residents don’t even have access to basic ADSL. They’re being forced to rely on expensive and unreliable wireless or dial up services.
“Everyone from kids doing their homework through to businesses trying to get ahead need access to fast, reliable and affordable broadband” Ms Peris said.
