Turnbull confirms Abbott’s half a billion broken promises

It has been revealed today that between $200 million and $300 million will be ripped from the budget of the ABC and SBS despite the Prime Minister promising the Australian people that there would be “no cuts to the ABC or SBS.”

Speaking on SBS News the night before the election, Tony Abbott promised:

“No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to ABC or SBS.”

Since that lie Tony Abbott has cut more than $240 million from the ABC and SBS.

Fairfax media has reported that ‘government sources’ have confirmed the ABC and SBS will face further cuts of between $200 million and $300 million.

The $240 million cut in the budget plus this means Tony Abbott has now cut more than half a billion dollars from the budgets of the ABC and SBS.

In a little over a year Tony Abbott has gone from ‘no cuts to the ABC or SBS’ to more than half a billion dollars in cuts to the ABC and SBS.

Compare Tony Abbott’s “no cuts to ABC or SBS” to Malcolm Turnbull’s “We’ve come to a conclusion on the level of cuts, yes.”

You can call it a lie, you can call it a broken promise, you can call it deception, you can call it an untruth – one thing is clear; Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull cannot be trusted.
