The Auburn Branch of the Australian Labor Party has been campaigning for months to get Cumberland Council to clean up Duck River.
Duck River has been a mess for a long time – full of pollution, shopping trolleys and plastic waste.
This campaign has finally led to a major clean-up of Duck River by Cumberland Council in the last few weeks.
This is great news, but more work is needed to keep Duck River in better shape.
That is why local MP Jason Clare announced today he will provide $51,000 to Cumberland Council to help keep the river clean.
This money will be used to install a new gross pollutant trap to catch litter entering the river.
It will also be used to restore the Duck River Track (off Ray Marshall Reserve) to allow for better management of native species and the environment and to provide volunteer groups with the right equipment to help keep the river clean.
Duck River is a major waterway in our local community. It hasn’t been properly looked after. We have to keep it clean and healthy. This money will help do that.
