Federal Member for Blaxland Jason Clare MP attended the official opening of Bankstown’s highly anticipated all-abilities inclusive playground, Livvi’s Place.
Mr Clare provided $15,000 in funding from the Blaxland Stronger Communities Fund to help the City of Canterbury Bankstown install wayfinding signage at the new inclusive playground built in Bankstown City Gardens.
The specialist picture and braille signs positioned at all entrances and throughout the play area indicate types of play experiences and equipment.
“I’m so proud to have helped fund this wonderful playground and make our community more inclusive and accessible,” Mr Clare said.
The playground includes:
- Embankment slides;
- Double flying fox;
- Tree house;
- Trampoline;
- Giant basket and cradle swings;
- Climbing frame;
- Sand and water play areas;
- Sensory garden;
- BBQs; and
- Seating.
In 2016, Mr Clare also provided $20,000 in funding for Sydney’s first fully accessible amenities facility specifically designed for people with disability at Bankstown City Gardens.
The facility is more spacious than a standard bathroom and is equipped with extra features to accommodate people with a wide range of disabilities and learning difficulties. These include:
- A ceiling hoist and gantry system;
- A height adjustable adult changing bench;
- An internal shower and wash area; and
- An external hand-wash area.
Bankstown has the highest percentage of people with a disability in the state.
