Local Federal MP, Jason Clare has recognised the exceptional efforts of 40 local school students at his ninth annual Community Service Awards Ceremony held at Bankstown Sports Club on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by over 200 guests including families, school principals and teachers.
“Each of these students is making our local community a better place to live,” Mr Clare said.
One of the youngest recipients on the night was local year 3 student Caitlin Seckold from Milperra Public School.
“Caitlin rode her bike for 100 km around the Criterium Circuit at Bass Hill to raise money for Westmead Hospital – where a student from Milperra Public School is waiting to get a double lung transplant.”
“It took 6 hours and 55 minutes to cycle the 100 km and she managed to raise $6,509 for the hospital.”
Mr Clare added, “I am inspired by the hard work and selflessness of these incredible young people.”
Canterbury Bankstown TAP member and Bankstown Girls High student, Tanya Tago of Year 11, performed the National Anthem, ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Angel’, whilst Bankstown Girls High Year 12 student, Serene Omran, performed her HSC piece, “Ocean”.
Guest speaker, Luke Webb, Ambassador for the Stroke Foundation of Australia, gave an inspiring address that captivated award recipients and their families.
During this event, the students recognised for their admirable achievements were presented with an official certificate.
