New outdoor area for Youth Off The Streets

Local Federal MP Jason Clare last week visited Youth Off The Streets to inspect Bankstown Outreach’s new outdoor area.

$10,000 of funding for this upgrade comes from Jason Clare’s Blaxland Stronger Communities Programme.

Youth Off The Streets have also contributed a further $10,000 towards this project.

Mr Clare said, “This new outdoor space will help young people in Bankstown who are looking for a safe and quiet place to relax, hang out and get support from trained staff.”

“The Bankstown team were in need of an outdoor space for the young people we help. Without the Stronger Communities Programme we wouldn’t be able to provide this space to the young people in our care. We look forward to running activities and helping those in need in this space,” said Father Chris Riley, CEO and founder at Youth Off The Streets.

The Stronger Communities Programme provides grants, between $2,500 and $20,000, to not-for-profit organisations for small capital works projects that improve our local community.

To be eligible for a SCP grant, all projects require matched contributions, in cash or in kind.

Mr Clare said “I encourage all sporting and community groups in our local area to apply for funding under this program.”

In the first two rounds of the program, the Blaxland Consultation Committee approved 22 projects, with $289,000 worth of grants distributed to the local community.

“Expressions of Interest for the next round of funding are still open. For more information please contact my office on 02 9790 2466,” said Mr Clare.
