Over $137,000 in Local Volunteer Grants

Yesterday local Federal MP Jason Clare held a morning tea to thank 31 local volunteer groups in the Bankstown and Auburn areas.

The groups have received grants of up to $5,000 to purchase equipment like computers, pay for petrol and training for volunteers.

“Volunteers make our community tick. This money makes their job just a little bit easier and helps them do even more great work” Mr Clare said.

Yasmine Lewis from Bankstown Poetry Slam said that “Volunteers are the backbone of what we do at Bankstown Poetry Slam, so having this funding really supports us and what we do,” “We’ll be using this funding to buy audio equipment to capture performances and share it with more people, have necessary training for our volunteers to equip them with the skills to engage more young people, and petrol to help travel around Western Sydney.”

Peter Smart from Computer Pals, Bankstown said “Computer Pals relies on volunteers to help train seniors one-on-one with computer skills. This funding will be use to thank the 14 trainers from the club for the work they put in to the community.”
