Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, visited Bankstown Arts Centre to congratulate Bankstown Poetry Slam and the Bankstown Theatre Company Inc for receiving a Federal Government Volunteer Grant.
Bankstown Poetry Slam received $5,000 which will help cover fuel costs associated with travelling around Western Sydney, fund the purchase of a laptop and audiovisual equipment, and aid in training to work with different groups.
The Bankstown Theatre Company Inc received a total of $2,300 which will be used to fund a new laptop and an accounting package.
“The Volunteer Grants Program is a great way to directly support volunteers who selflessly give up their time to help others,” Mr Clare said.
“Grants between $1,000 and $5,000 were awarded to local groups to cover fuel and training costs and help purchase much-needed equipment for the volunteers that make these great community organisations tick.”
This year, thirty-one organisations in our local area each received a share of $137,669 in funding to support the fantastic work these organisations do for our community.
“Volunteers play such an important role in our community it is difficult to imagine where we would be without them,” Mr Clare said.
