Blaxland MP visits all 52 local schools

“I have spent the last 29 school days meeting with principals and teachers. The visits were a great opportunity to learn more about our local schools and to see first hand the great work being done.

Schools in Blaxland are at the heart of the local community. I am keen to become more involved with the school communities and assist where I can,” Mr Clare said.

Mr Clare also met with Rod Leonarder, School Education Director – South Western Sydney Region.

The visits were also an opportunity for Mr Clare to speak with principals about the Rudd Labor Government’s Education Revolution.

Mr Clare is a strong advocate for the need to invest in the early years of education.

“Early education is the key to success. Education is the greatest equaliser; it gives children from struggling families opportunity to reach their potential.

That’s why I have welcomed the Rudd Labor Government plan to ensure every four year old child has access to fifteen hours a week and 40 weeks a year of high quality preschool delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher.

My priority is to fight for greater access to high quality preschool for our local kids. Preschool rates in our local area are lower than the national average – this plan will help us fix that,” Mr Clare said.

The focus on preschool education is part of the Rudd Labor Government’s Education Revolution.

“We now live in a knowledge economy. The more we invest in education, skills and training – the stronger our economy and society will become.

To be able to compete globally, we need a world class education system.

This means investing more in our schools, in our teachers and establishing a national curriculum,” Mr Clare said.
