Blaxland MP says no second airport at Bankstown

“Bankstown Airport is already one of the busiest airports in the world. There are already more than 350,000 movements a year, that’s about 1000 movements a day,” Mr Clare said.

“In 2003 the Howard Government privatised Bankstown Airport.

“In March 2005, the Howard Government then approved the Bankstown Airport Master Plan, which allowed certain large passenger aircraft to fly into Bankstown. But in order for these planes to land at the airport a longer and stronger runway is required.

The Rudd Labor Government has ruled out approving major changes to the runway to allow large passenger aircraft to land at Bankstown Airport.

“Labor policy is very clear – NO second passenger airport in the Sydney basin,” Mr Clare said.
