South Western Sydney is one of 7 places across Australia that will get a Local Employment Coordinator, to help cushion our local community from the effects of the global recession.
“I have been saying for a long time, the global recession will hit our local area harder than almost anywhere else. It’s good to see the government is listening,” Mr Clare said.
The job of the Local Employment Coordinator will be to maximise job opportunities in South Western Sydney by marshalling training, infrastructure spending and Jobs Fund investments.
They will work with employers and not-for-profit organisations to identify new job opportunities and will help match the employment and training needs of our community to Commonwealth services and funding.
The Rudd Government also announced an important agreement with the big four banks CBA, Westpac, ANZ and NAB. Under the plan the banks have agreed to postpone repayments for up to 12 months for people who lose their jobs.
“This is good news for our local area. You can’t pay the mortgage without a job. These two measures will help protect local jobs and local homes,” Mr Clare said.
Unemployment in Blaxland is currently at 6.9% whilst the national average is 5.2%.
