Get the help you need – Cabramatta Local Services Forum

Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP and State Member for Cabramatta, Nick Lalich MP are working with the Vietnamese Community Association to host the first ‘Local Services Forum’ in Cabramatta.

The event will be at the Cabramatta PCYC, between 11am-2pm on Wednesday 14 October 2009.

Mr Clare said the Local Services Forum is about connecting local people to government and other organisations that can help them.

Organisations that will be there on the day to give people helpful advice include:

  • Centrelink
  • NSW Department of Housing
  • Department of Immigration and Citizenship
  • Medicare
  • Australian Electoral Commission
  • Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care
  • NSW Office of Fair Trading
  • NSW Department of Health
  • NSW Police
  • Fairfield City Council
  • Vietnamese Community Association, NSW Chapter
  • Vietnamese Mutual Support Association
  • NSW Vietnamese Elderly Friendship Association

“This is a great opportunity for people in Cabramatta to get the help they need from the experts,” Mr Clare said.

“This forum brings together local, state and federal government agencies to help people in our community. It will be a one-stop shop,” Mr Lalich said.

Community organisations like the Cabramatta Community Centre and the Fairfield Migrant Resource Centre will also be in attendance.

President of the Vietnamese Community Association, Tri Vo said that the VCA will provide Vietnamese interpreters to help people with limited English.

“With such a large Vietnamese speaking community in Cabramatta, interpreters will ensure that everyone gets access to the information they need,” Mr Vo said.

Phuoc Vo, founder of the Yellow Heart Foundation, thinks that the forum is a great idea.

“Being able to access so many services in the one location is terrific news,” Mr Vo said.
