Local MPs take Rudd’s health plan to Bankstown Hospital

Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP and Federal Member for Banks, Daryl Melham MP today held a roundtable discussion at Bankstown Hospital to discuss the Rudd Government’s Health and Hospital Plan.

About 30 local health professionals attended, including Anthony Schembri, General Manager of Bankstown Hospital and Andrey Zhelluk, Executive Officer of the Bankstown GP Division.

“Bankstown doctors and nurses are at the coal face of our health system. They understand the problems better than anyone. That’s why we met today to talk about the Prime Minister’s plan and to get their ideas,” Mr Clare said.

“The clear message from today was – we need more doctors, more nurses and more hospital beds. We need an integrated health system that includes GPs, Bankstown Hospital, community care and aged care services – and we need to make sure they all work together,” Mr Clare said.

Federal Member for Banks, Daryl Melham MP, said the health reforms will deliver better health services and better hospitals for our local community.

“We want to see local health professionals have a say in how Bankstown Hospital is run,” Mr Melham said.
