A total of 20 different agencies from Federal, State and Local Government will come together under one roof on Thursday June 10 at Bankstown Town Hall from 6:30pm – 8:00pm for a Government Services One-Stop-Shop, initiated by Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare.
“When people come into my office looking for help, they can get pretty frustrated when you tell them that their problem is a local government or a state government issue. That is why we have organised an event that brings all government services—local, state and federal—together under one roof,” said Mr Clare.
Agencies set to attend the One Stop Shop include:
- Department of Immigration and Citizenship
- Australian Electoral Commission
- Australian Taxation Office
- Housing New South Wales
- NSW Fair Trading
- NSW Health
- NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care
- NSW Police
- Legal Aid
- Bankstown Council
- Bankstown TAFE
- Bankstown Family Relationship Centre
- Creating Links
State Member for Bankstown, Tony Stewart, and Bankstown Mayor, Clr Tania Mihailuk, are also lending their support to the One-Stop-Shop.
“A lot of people here in Bankstown are doing it tough. Unemployment is double the national average. When you’re unemployed or doing it tough, you might need help from Centrelink, Housing NSW, Medicare and maybe even TAFE for re-training. That’s why it makes sense to put everything in the one place,” said the Member for Bankstown Tony Stewart.
“The forum is an opportunity for local people to better understand each agency’s role, including Council, and how we all work together to support the community. Council is pleased to support the forum and are contributing $1500 towards the costs associated with the event,” said Mayor of Bankstown, Clr Tania Mihailuk.
Mr Clare says it’s a good demonstration of how governments can work together.
