Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare yesterday visited the Yagoona Nursing Home to congratulate its oldest resident, Mrs Stanislawa Krzysko on reaching 100 years of age.

“Reaching one hundred is a tremendous achievement for any person and I congratulate Mrs Krzysko on this extraordinary milestone,” Mr Clare said.

When asked what the secret to a long life is, Mrs Krzysko stated that it is “working hard and being kind to everyone.”

Mrs Krzysko was born in the Polish town of Brzozow in 1910 and emigrated from war torn Poland in the 1950’s to Australia and played a vital role in the post world war two recovery effort by working on a farm near Liverpool before retiring in the area.

“We owe a great debt of gratitude to the people who emigrated to Australia after world war two and contributed their labour and culture to Australia and helped to make it the country it is today,” Mr Clare said.

Mrs Krzysko enjoyed singing in the church choir in Brzozow, and continued to do so in her local Catholic Church when she arrived in Australia.

Mrs Krzysko and her late husband played an active role in the Polish Community and helped to fundraise and build a church in Marayong.

Mr Clare arranged for a letter of congratulations to be sent to Mrs Krzysko from Her Majesty the Queen.

Mr Clare invites residents to let his office know when they are celebrating a special 90th plus birthday or a 50th plus wedding anniversary so he can arrange for appropriate personal congratulatory messages from the Prime Minister Julia Gillard

“Celebarating events like this is a great privilege and I hope Mrs Krzysko has many more birthdays to come,” Mr Clare concluded
