Thank you Bankstown

Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP and Bankstown SES thanked the people of Bankstown for their incredible generosity.

“In three days at Bankstown railway station and Bankstown Centro we collected $21,698 for the Queensland flood victims,” Mr Clare said.

“It is obvious the disaster happening in Queensland has really affected the people of Bankstown and they want to do everything they can to help”.

“Some wanted to donate clothes, others said they were going to head to Queensland to help with the clean up,” Mr Clare said.

“A lot of people gave us $50 notes, one person gave us $500. Some emptied their purses. Others apologised that they only had a few cents to give”.

“This shows what a great town we really are,” Mr Clare said.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, many local community groups, clubs and businesses in Blaxland are also raising funds for the Queensland flood victims.

They include Bankstown Sports Club, Bankstown RSL, Bankstown Bunnings and Yagoona Lions.

“Bankstown SES local volunteers have been helping Queensland and NSW flood affected residents since November 2010 – we really appreciate the community, family and employer support shown during these difficult times,” Bankstown local controller David Niven said.

“If you need assistance from the SES, call 132 500,” Mr Niven said.
