Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, visited Bankstown West Public School this week to officially open its new Multipurpose Hall, built as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).
Mr Clare was joined at the opening by the School’s Acting Principal, Mrs Joyce Hone, Aboriginal Elders Uncle Harry and Uncle Steve, and Mrs Hanh Huhyn and Mrs Linda Myring from the school’s P&C Association.
Bankstown West Public School received a total of $2.1 million under the program. In addition to the new multipurpose hall, the funding was also used to refurbish buildings as well as walkways and paved surfaces.
“Bankstown West Public School which celebrates its 80th Anniversary this year has never had a purpose built school hall .
“This is a fantastic new multipurpose facility. I’m certain that all 200 students at Bankstown West Public School will enjoy learning and performing here,” Mr Clare said.
The students celebrated the official opening of the new multipurpose hall with a special school assembly. Indigenous elders Uncle Steve and Uncle Harry conducted a traditional smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country.
