Clean Energy Future Package

On Sunday the Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced the Federal Government’s Clean Energy Future Package.

Federal Member for Blaxland Jason Clare said this was very important for our local community.

Mr Clare said it would “cut pollution, cut taxes and increase the pension”.

“It will mean around 500 of Australia’s biggest polluters will have to pay for the pollution that they put into our atmosphere.

“Every dollar raised will go to support jobs, households and to invest in clean energy and climate change programs.”

“Nine out of 10 households will receive assistance through a combination of tax cuts, higher family payments and increases in pensions and benefits.”

In Blaxland it means:

  • More than 29,300 pensioners in Blaxland will receive an extra $338 a year if they are single and $510 a year if they are a couple.
  • More than 17,700 local families will receive extra assistance to raise their children – up to $110 per child if they currently receive Family Tax Benefit A and $69 a child if they currently receive Family Tax Benefit B.
  • Every taxpayer who earns under $80,000 will also get a tax cut – with most receiving at least $300 a year.
  • Concession card holders who rely on essential medical equipment will be eligible to receive an additional $140 Essential medical equipment payment a year.
