Climate Change Legislation introduced – What it means for Blaxland

Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, this week welcomed the introduction of the Clean Energy Future legislation which will cut pollution, cut taxes and increase the pension.

In the electorate of Blaxland it means:

  • More than 29,300 pensioners will receive an extra $338 a year if they are single and $510 a year if they are a couple.
  • More than 17,700 local families will receive extra assistance to raise their children – up to $110 per child if they currently receive Family Tax Benefit A and $69 a child if they currently receive Family Tax Benefit B.
  • Taxpayers who earn under $80,000 will also get a permanent tax cut – with most receiving at least $300 a year.

“The Labor Party and the Liberal Party both have a policy to cut carbon pollution by 5 percent by 2020. The debate is about how to do it” Mr Clare said.

“The Government’s plan means big polluters will pay. Under Tony Abbott’s plan taxpayers will pay an extra $1,300 a year in tax”.

“Treasury analysis shows the Liberal’s plan will cost twice as much as the Government’s. This makes the decision simple”.

“If you had to drive between Sydney and Canberra, and one car cost $50 in petrol and another cost $100, you would choose the cheaper option. Anyone with any sense would”.
