Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, today visited Old Guildford Public School to announce that they have received a $60,000 grant as part of the Government’s Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.
“The Kitchen Garden Program teaches students about the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. They will learn how to grow their own food and how to cook healthy meals.
“Healthy gardening and fun cooking experiences help to educate children about good nutrition” Mr Clare said.
Ms Kay Campbell, Principal of Old Guildford Public School “The entire school community is extremely excited about our new vegetable garden and kitchen”.
“The students have played an active role throughout the application process and are looking forward to having active hands-on experiences in the new garden.”
The program was founded by culinary expert Stephanie Alexander and is now supported by the Australian Government through a $12.8 million investment over four years to implement the program in up to 190 schools nation-wide.
The Government also recently announced $1 million over three years to develop curriculum resources to support the program.
