Bankstown’s Urban Theatre Projects to receive $885,000

Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP today welcomed the announcement that local theatre company, Urban Theatre Projects will receive a further 3 years of funding, as a Key Organisation of the Australia Council’s Theatre Board.

Urban Theatre Projects, based within the newly completed, Bankstown Arts Centre, will receive a total of $885,000 over the next three years, from the Federal Government.

“This is terrific news for Urban Theatre Projects and our local community,” Mr Clare said.

“By securing this funding Urban Theatre Projects will continue to inspire and entertain local and international audiences with their first-class theatre productions,” Mr Clare said.

“Bankstown has produced some of Australia’s most talented artists: Bryan Brown, Human Nature and AC/DC. It is also the home of Urban Theatre Projects, a first-class theatre company telling stories of the suburbs and taking them to the world,” Mr Clare said.

Urban Theatre Projects Executive Producer, Ms Michelle Kotevski said that the funding will make an immense difference in the development of local artists and in the expansion of Western Sydney local work. It also means that Urban Theatre Projects can now afford to hire an Associate Producer and increase the capacity of the company.

“This funding will help Urban Theatre Projects build pathways for local artists to work nationally and internationally,” Ms Kotevski said.

“Great art does not have to come from the Inner City. Western Sydney has definitely emerged as a big player in the arts arena” Ms Kotevski said.
