As students across New South Wales go back to school this week, Member for Blaxland Jason Clare is urging parents to keep their back-to-school receipts and claim back their expenses.

Under the Gillard Government’s Education Tax Refund, thousands of eligible families will receive help meeting the cost of primary and secondary education.

“This time of year can be really expensive for parents getting their kids ready for a new school year,” said Mr Clare.

Parents are able to claim up to 50 per cent of the cost of computers, educational software, textbooks, stationery and school uniforms when they lodge their tax return.

“The Gillard Government has expanded the education tax refund this year so you can now also claim school uniforms.”

Families on Family Tax Benefit Part A can receive refunds of up to $409 per primary school student and $818 per secondary school student at tax time.
