The Liberal Party plan to expand operations at Bankstown Airport has been revealed.
In an interview this week, Shadow Transport Minister Warren Truss said: “I think that a substantial extension in the life of Kingsford Smith Airport as Sydney’s really only major airport can be achieved through better use of neighbouring airports in places like Bankstown, in Richmond.” (ABC Illawarra 7:30 News 16/04/2012)
Mr Clare said: “This only means one thing – more planes in Bankstown. This would be disastrous.”
“It means if Tony Abbott is elected, there will be more planes for Bankstown, more noise, and more traffic.”
Last month Transport Minister Anthony Albanese ruled out Bankstown airport being developed as Sydney’s second airport.
“Bankstown Airport will not be expanded to take large passenger aircraft while the Labor Government is in power, but it is now clear the Liberals have other plans,” said Mr Clare.
