Tony Abbott yesterday confirmed he will expand Bankstown Airport if he is elected.
Mr Abbott made the admission in a speech he gave to Infrastructure Partnerships Australia about Sydney’s future airport needs.
In that speech he backs a plan to spread flights from Sydney to existing airports ahead of building a second Sydney airport.
Mr Abbott said:
“Down the track it means better use of Bankstown and Richmond.”
Federal Member for Blaxland Jason Clare said: “It is now absolutely clear, if Tony Abbott is elected, we will suffer more traffic and more noise in suburbs like Georges Hall, Bass Hill Condell Park, Revesby and Milperra.”
“Bankstown Airport will not be expanded while the Labor Government is in power, but it will be if Tony Abbott is elected,” Mr Clare said.
