Federal MP’s Tony Burke, Jason Clare and Daryl Melham are encouraging local not-for-profit organisations in the community to apply for funding under this year’s Volunteer Grants initiative.
Organisations will be able to apply for grants between $1,000 and $5,000 to purchase much-needed equipment, contribute to fuel costs, transport costs for volunteers with disability who are unable to drive, provide training courses and background checks for volunteers.
Tony Burke acknowledged that our communities rely heavily on the contribution of volunteers.
“These Volunteer Grants are just one way the Government is saying thanks to our local volunteers for their selfless work and commitment that not only make our communities stronger, but make us the nation we are” said Tony Burke.
Mr Clare said. “This program is a great way to recognise and support volunteers who give up their time to help people.”
“Last year, 1,525 organisations in NSW received funding in Volunteer Grants, which helped purchase items to assist in their work. For example, a number of Parents and Friends Associations from our local schools applied successfully for grants to assist with small items such as barbeques and marquees” said Daryl Melham.
Volunteer Grants are part of our ongoing commitment to supporting volunteers and are highly valued by local community organisations.
