Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, today congratulated the Bankstown Public School P&C Committee for being awarded $1,952 under the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants Program.
Bankstown Public School Parent Representative Committee is one of 34 local organisations in our local area to share in over $130,000 in funding to support the work of their volunteers.
“The Volunteer Grants Program is a great way to directly support volunteers who selflessly give up their time to help others,” Mr Clare said.
“Between $1,000 and $5,000 will go to local groups to contribute to their volunteers’ fuel costs and purchase much-needed equipment.
“Grants will also help with the transport costs of volunteers with disabilities who are unable to drive and need to use public transport or taxis as part of their volunteering role.
Bankstown Public School Parent Representative Committee will use this grant to cover the transport costs for their volunteers who are unable to drive as well as to purchase a microwave oven and a water cooler for their community room.
91 year old Florence Graham, affectionately known as ‘Nana’ by the school community, has been volunteering at Bankstown Public School twice a week for over fifteen years.
This grant now means that Bankstown Public School can transport Nana to and from the school for the twice weekly Playgroup for pre-schoolers which she helps to run.
“This will mean I can continue to help out at the school – which is something I love to do,” Mrs Graham said.
“Volunteers play such an important role in our community it is difficult to imagine where we would be without them,” Mr Clare said.
