Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare today joined war veterans Dick Payten and Jack Bedford as well as John Woodley from Bankstown RSL Sub-branch at the Bankstown War Memorial to announce a $100,000 local area federal funding grant.
Next year, Australia will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the First World War.
“Our local area will receive $100,000 from the Federal Government to help community groups commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australian service men and women.” Mr Clare said.
Jason is calling on local residents and community groups to contact him with their ideas and suggestions on how the funding should be used.
“Call my office or send me an email with your suggestions on how this Federal Government grant can be used to commemorate the centenary of ANZAC.
A local committee headed by Dick Payten and Jack Bedford, along with representatives from local RSLs, schools, cultural groups and councils will consider all proposals and make recommendations to the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Jack Bedford is the Chairman of Bankstown RSL and Dick Payten is the President of the 7th Division AIF Association. Both men are inspirational members of our local community who served during the Second World War.
Examples of eligible activities under the Program include:
- Public commemorative events;
- new First World War memorials or honour boards;
- the restoration of existing First World War memorials or honour boards;
- the preservation, interpretation and display of First World War wartime and military memorabilia and artefacts; and
- School projects commemorating ANZAC
