Mr Clare was joined at the opening by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Fairfield MP, Guy Zangari, Principal of Old Guildford Primary School, Ms Kay Campbell as well as teachers, students and parents.

Old Guildford Public School received a $60,000 grant as part of the Federal Government’s Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

“In September 2011 I came to Old Guildford to hand over the cheque for $60,000. In such a shot time it is great to see the garden filled with fruit, veggies and herbs,” Mr Clare said.

“Students, teachers, parents and friends have all made a huge contribution to the Kitchen Garden – this is a great example of the strong community here in Old Guilford.

The Kitchen Garden Program teaches students about the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. They learn how to grow their own food and how to cook healthy meals.

Parents and students celebrated the official opening with a special school assembly which featured the school choir performing a number of items and a tour of the Kitchen Garden.
