Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, today congratulated the Yagoona Public School Parent Representative Committee and Bankstown Legacy for being amongst the thirty-three organisations in our local area to share in over $120,000 under the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants program.
“The Volunteer Grants Program is a great way to directly support volunteers who selflessly give up their time to help others,” Mr Clare said.
“Between $1,000 and $5,000 will go to local groups to contribute to their volunteers’ fuel costs and purchase much-needed equipment.
“Grants will also help with the transport costs of volunteers with disabilities who are unable to drive and need to use public transport or taxis as part of their volunteering role.
The Yagoona Public School Parent Representative Committee will receive $2,200 to purchase a computer, laptop, external hard drive, outdoor furniture and a sunshade to support the work of their volunteers.
Bankstown Legacy, a support network for the widows and families of deceased Australian Defence Force personnel will receive $4,172.15 to purchase iPads, photocopiers and a laminator to organise meetings and social outings that enable participants to connect with friends and discuss issues of mutual concern.
“Volunteers play such an important role in our community it is difficult to imagine where we would be without them,” Mr Clare said.
