New Bankstown Trade Training Centre – the last of its kind

Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare, today officially opened the new Trade Training Centre at LaSalle College in Bankstown.

The new $5 million Saint Yon Trade Training Centre funded by the former Labor Government includes state of the art workshops for carpentry, electrical work, metal fabrication, metal fitting and motor mechanics.

Mr Clare was joined at the opening by the Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell.

“This is a really important facility. It will help provide students with the practical skills they need to get a trade when they leave high school.

“Unfortunately this is the last of its kind. Under Labor, Trade Training Centres were being built in every high school in Australia. Now Tony Abbott has cut this program.

“This is terrible news for Bankstown, it means 14 local high schools will miss out on $21 million to build Trade Training Centres in their schools,” Mr Clare said.
