Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP is encouraging local residents to have their say about the proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act at a community forum organised for next Wednesday evening at the Bryan Brown Theatre in Bankstown.
The Federal Government is proposing to make changes to the Racial Discrimination Act, one of the changes is to remove the words “offend, insult or humiliate” in Section 18C which protects people against racist hate speech.
“I don’t support these changes. If these changes become law that would mean that you could offend, insult or harass people based on the colour of their skin,” Mr Clare said.
The public forum will help inform our community about what these changes might mean for them and to assist members of our community to participate in the submission process.
“This forum is an opportunity for everyone to have their say.
“It is also an opportunity to ask questions about what these changes would mean in our local community,” Mr Clare said.
