Bankstown cannot afford Tony Abbott’s unfair GP tax

Shadow Minister for Health, Catherine King MP, today visited the Powell Street Medical Centre at Yagoona with Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP, to discuss the Abbott Government’s cuts to health and the impact they will have on the people of Bankstown.

This new $7 tax to go to the doctor will hit Bankstown harder than most. 98.2 per cent of all visits to the doctor in Blaxland are bulk billed.

This is an unfair tax based on a Tony Abbott lie before the election.

“Local families are already struggling to make ends meet. They can’t afford Tony Abbott’s new taxes and broken promises,” Mr Clare said.

“If this goes ahead it will hit our community harder than almost anywhere else in Australia.

“Tony Abbott should ditch his plans for an unfair GP Tax altogether. No one should have to pay this unfair tax.”

This is the biggest attack on Medicare in more than 30 years.

It’s an attempt to end universal healthcare in Australia and create a two-tiered, American style health system.

Labor will continue to stand up for the rights of all Australians against Tony Abbott’s cuts and unfair GP Tax.
