Information obtained from the Education Department has revealed that 14 schools in our local community will now miss out on getting a Trade Training Centre because of Tony Abbott’s cuts.
The previous Labor Government’s Trade Training Centre Program funded the construction of several state of the art workshops for carpentry, electrical work, metal fabrication, metal fitting and motor mechanics.
These multipurpose facilities allow students to train in a range of vocational skills while still at school. Four schools in our local community have a Trade Training Centre:
- LaSalle College Bankstown
- Georges River Grammar
- Bankstown Senior College
- Patrician Brothers’ College Fairfield
Now this important program has been axed and 14 local schools and thousands of local students are going to miss out.
“This is terrible news for Bankstown. A lot of young people in our local area want to get a trade when they finish school. These Trade Training Centres give young people a flying start. They give students the skills and experience they need to get a trade when they leave school,” Mr Clare said.
“This bad decision will hit our community harder than most. Australia’s youth unemployment rate is already at its highest level in 13 years. In our community youth unemployment is even higher.
“This just proves again, Tony Abbott doesn’t care about our community.”
