Keep Australia Working

Blog post on ALP.com.au

More than 8 million Americans have lost their job in the past 12 months. In Spain unemployment has rocketed up from 8.8 per cent to over 19. In Europe unemployment has hit 10 per cent for the first time in more than a decade. Worldwide 27 million people have lost their jobs in the past year.

Recessions kill jobs.

That’s why the economic stimulus plan is so important. It kept us out of recession and kept Australia working.

Here in Australia 180,000 additional jobs have been created in the past 12 months.

The drop in unemployment to 5.3 per cent is a great result. It proves we have made the right decisions, but there is still a lot more work to do.

Yesterday Tony Abbott said that the Economic Stimulus Plan was a waste of money and that the New Zealand government’s stimulus had been just as effective.

Really? New Zealand has now been in recession for over a year and their unemployment rate has hit 7.3 per cent – a ten year high.

This shows just how out of touch Tony Abbott is and what a risk he and Barnaby Joyce are to the Australian economy.

P.S – I’ve just got back from the Jobs Expo we ran in Bankstown today. What an event! 1200 people through the door in the first 45 minutes and about 400 people have gone home with a job.

The next Jobs Expo is in Elizabeth in South Australia next Friday, 19 February. So if you live in the Northern or Western Adelaide and are looking for work, get started on your CV and come along.
